Some 240 investment projects for a total of 10.7 billion DH were approved in the Souss-Massa-Drâa region in 2011.
According to the Regional Investment Center (CRI), these investments will create nearly 10,000 job opportunities, adds the same source in a press release received Thursday by the MAP.
The construction and public works sector leads with 43% of the investment amounts, followed by industry with 39%. The tourism sector ranks third with 12%.
According to the CRI of Agadir, the past year was marked by a recovery in the construction sector with the launch of several social housing programs.
Indeed, 27 projects for the construction of more than 18,940 units were approved, for an investment of 5,412 million DH.
This recovery will be accompanied, according to the CRI, by the construction of the new Souss Cement Plant, a project of the company "Lafarge Ciments" in the rural communes of Tidssi N'Issandelne and Tasgdelt, respectively in the provinces of Taroudant and Chtouka Ait Baha.
The project consists in the construction, by 2015, of a quarry and a complete cement production plant with a capacity of 2,500 tons of clinker per day, or 1.2 million tons of cement annually.
Regarding the industrial sector, progress has been made in the development and allocation of plots for the first phase of Haliopolis, the first integrated industrial park dedicated to the processing of seafood products at the national level.
Some 25 projects have been allocated land within the park totaling an investment amount of more than 870 million dirhams, with more than 3,500 jobs planned.
The year 2011 was also marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding relating to the development, promotion, marketing and management of Agadir Shore Park.
The Park will be built on a 20-hectare site in the center of Agadir, on a strategic axis characterized by its very high connectivity to infrastructure and services.
Regarding tourism, major projects were approved in 2011, according to the CRI, with the ambition of consolidating and diversifying the region's tourism entertainment product. These include the "Megarama" cinema complex on a 2-hectare site and a water park initiated by the "Moroccan-Egyptian Tourism Investment Company".
Regarding business creation, 1,564 business creation applications were processed in 2011, with an amount of 1,175 million DH, generating nearly 6,800 jobs.
Compared to 2010, the past year showed a slight increase in business creation, of the order of 3.4%. (MAP)
