25 MDT Investment for a Hypermarket in Gabes

The Ministry of Commerce and Crafts has given its agreement in principle to grant authorization for the creation of a large commercial area in the governorate of Gabes, in addition to agreements for two other governorates.

This agreement is part of the allocation of authorizations for large areas for modern commerce. According to a document from the information office of the Ministry of Commerce and Crafts, a copy of which was received by the TAP agency on Tuesday, the main specifications of this commercial area are that it will be established on a space of 17,921 m2, with investments estimated at 25 million dinars.

This project will create approximately 1,100 direct jobs and as many indirect jobs, in addition to 200 jobs during the construction phase. This large area will be built as an integrated shopping center, with commercial spaces and others for services, in addition to a hypermarket, a shopping mall, restaurants, and a showroom for selling cars.

According to Article 12 of Decree No. 664 of January 28, 2013, authorization for the creation of a large commercial area requires the completion of work and commencement within 3 years.

The Minister of Commerce and Crafts, Abdelwaheb Maatar, stated on Monday that his department has given preliminary approval for the granting of three authorizations to open hypermarkets in the governorates of Ben Arous, Monastir, and Gabes. He stated that opportunities in this area are offered to investors on the condition that these hypermarkets are built outside large urban areas to avoid traffic congestion and to protect small businesses.
