25,000 New Public Sector Jobs by 2012

The Council of Ministers adopted the bill on public sector recruitment for the year 2012.

The bill provides for the creation of 25,000 new public sector jobs in 2012, announced Mohamed Abbou, the Minister Delegate for Administrative Reform.
At a press conference held Saturday at the Kasbah, Mr. Abbou stressed that this new law will allow the recruitment of 60% of candidates based on age (the oldest) and the year the diploma was obtained.
The recruitment of the remaining 40% will be based on competence, he specified.
Four categories are not covered by this bill, said the minister. These include the families of martyrs and those injured in the Revolution, who will be recruited after the publication of the final list; those benefiting from the general amnesty; candidates for certain public sector positions (such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports) that have their own status; and disabled people (1% must be recruited under the 2005 law).

In April 2012, several public sector recruitment competitions will be announced, Mr. Abbou predicted.
This law will be applicable until March 20, 2013, the likely date of the next elections, according to Mr. Abbou.
