50,000 Jobs Thanks to the "Smart Tunisia" Project

The "Smart Tunisia" project, whose creation decree was adopted yesterday, Monday, in the Council of Ministers, will create 50,000 jobs within five years, particularly among higher education graduates.

The project involves developing offshore services activities and creating a management unit by objectives. It also includes focusing investment in information technology and adopting incentives to encourage employment and training, explains a press release issued Tuesday by the Prime Minister's press services.

The project, which also aims to attract international companies, will promote Tunisia as an investment destination in the field of information and communication technologies. "This involves promoting the programming and software applications sector, as well as the design of computer or mobile phone equipment and the creation of economic databases," adds the same source.

The creation decree of "Smart Tunisia" provides for the commitment of companies active in the field of communication technologies, in case of expansion and the creation of jobs within a period not exceeding three years. It also aims to encourage offshore services activities and strengthen partnerships between Tunisian companies to attract foreign investment in ICT, indicates the Prime Minister's press release. "A set of measures has been adopted to facilitate relations between these companies and various public services, in addition to the National Employment Fund covering the cost of training and additional upgrading of new recruits, with a ceiling of 5,000 dinars for each new recruitment," specifies the same source.

Companies active in the ICT sector will also benefit, according to the Prime Minister, from a recruitment allowance (700 dinars per year) for up to seven years for each recruitment of a first-time job seeker.

The draft decree also provides for the creation of a management unit by objectives, responsible for concluding and monitoring the implementation of the various agreements included in this project.

This unit will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of projects within the framework of the "Smart Tunisia" project and for ensuring that investment is attracted and human resources are trained.

A commission has also been created within the Ministry of Information Technology to monitor and evaluate the activities of the management unit by objectives according to pre-established standards.

An annual report will also be submitted to the Head of Government.
