64 Million Dirhams for the Development of Rosaceae and Olive Groves in the Sefrou Province

Agricultural development is accelerating. New projects were launched yesterday in Sefrou under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This launch reflects "His Majesty the King's firm determination to make the agricultural sector a catalyst for balanced and sustainable economic growth in all regions of the Kingdom and a key factor in promoting rural areas through the development of agricultural production systems and the management of rural spaces." Dedicated to the development of the rosaceae and olive sectors, these two projects carry messages of modernization, productivity, and improved income.
The result of a partnership between the Agricultural Development Fund (FDA) and private investors, these two high-value-added projects are in line with efforts to implement the Green Morocco Plan optimally. Located in the Ait Sebâa Lajourf rural municipality, the rosaceae project, initiated by Regagest on a total area of 96 hectares, involves planting 60 hectares of different apple varieties, yielding an annual production of 3,000 tons of apples, or 50 tons per hectare. The project also includes the installation of anti-hail nets, a fertigation station, and a drip irrigation system. The municipality will also see the construction of two water reservoirs with a total capacity of 15,000 m3, as well as the acquisition of agricultural equipment, including tractors, sprayers, self-propelled platforms, and lift trucks. In terms of cost, the investment for this project reaches 22.3 million dirhams, generating nearly 40 permanent and 60 temporary jobs. Regarding the development of the olive sector, the Sovereign inquired about the details of a project in the Mternagha rural municipality. Thus, 340 hectares of land will be planted with various olive varieties, in addition to the construction of a modern olive processing unit with a capacity of 74 tons per day. "With a budget of 40.1 million dirhams, this project, covering a total area of 550 hectares, also included the establishment of an olive oil packaging and bottling unit, the acquisition of various agricultural equipment, and the drilling of twelve wells," we learn. In the long term, this project will increase the yield of cultivated land from 1.6 tons per hectare to 7 tons per hectare. It will also create 16 permanent and 29 temporary jobs.

Structuring Agricultural Projects

The two projects of Pillar I of the Green Morocco Plan (GMP), inaugurated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on Monday in the province of Sefrou, are structuring and coherent agricultural projects, stressed the Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, Aziz Akhannouch. These two projects dedicated to the development of the rosaceae and olive sectors in the province are part of the strategy aimed at promoting public/private partnerships, since they were set up on state land that was made available to investors, he added.
The minister indicated that the government is working to encourage this strategy in order to increase investment efforts in the agricultural sector. Mr. Akhannouch also noted that one of the two projects inaugurated by the Sovereign, dedicated to the development of rosaceae crops, particularly apples, aims to obtain better yields through the use of best practices, including drip irrigation and anti-hail nets. The apple development project is at the heart of this region, given that the Sefrou province accounts for nearly 15% of the national apple production, which amounts to nearly 500,000 tons per year, he noted.
