Appearing on Shems fm on Monday, September 2, 2013, Abdelwahab Maatar, Minister of Commerce and Crafts, announced that three companies have been authorized to build hypermarkets in Gabes, Monastir, and Ben Arous.

Within the next three years, three hypermarkets will open their doors in the cities of Gabes, Monastir, and Ben Arous.

Abdelwahab Maatar stated that these projects will be "community centers" for the populations of the regions. The hypermarkets in question will cost 400 million dinars.

He added that these projects will have a strong economic impact, creating direct and indirect jobs.

The Minister of Commerce and Crafts demanded that investors be exclusively Tunisian. Only three projects out of twenty-three were selected.

The Minister of Commerce and Crafts concluded by stating that other projects may emerge in these regions if these prove successful.
