Airbus is planning to build an integrated civil aviation park in Tunisia in the coming years, Airbus's Middle East president, Habib Fekih, announced Monday in Tunis after a meeting with Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali.
This project, part of the expansion of the Aerolia plant in Mghira (Ben Arous), which specializes in aeronautical components, aims to support Tunisia's efforts to fight unemployment (around 800,000 unemployed), according to Mr. Fekih.
The plant expansion in the southern suburbs of Tunis will quadruple the workforce from 400 to 1700 employees and managers.
The meeting with the Prime Minister reviewed vocational training, infrastructure development, and logistics for the integrated park project.
Last January, during a visit to Tunisia, Airbus's chief operating officer and chairman of the board of Aerolia SAS, Fabrice Bregier, stated that "we will move to a second phase, the construction of an aeronautical subcontracting park in several areas (tooling, logistics, surface treatment...), and this requires government support for infrastructure and training..."
The Aerolia unit in Tunisia produces 37 aeronautical components, 80% of which are for the Airbus A320 and exported to France for assembly at the company's headquarters in Toulouse.
