"Perspectives and Challenges of Professional Training in Tunisia" was the theme of a workshop held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in Tunis, at the initiative of the Ministry of Professional Training and Employment and the French Development Agency (AFD).
Many Tunisian and French academics and professionals participated in this event.
This meeting aimed to discuss the challenges and perspectives of professional training in Tunisia, based on an assessment of progress and shortcomings.
The topics discussed during this event included "partnerships and governance", "the role of public and private, national and international partners", "the type of governance to meet the needs of economic sectors", "mechanisms for financing professional training: financing supply and demand: tools and actors", "the integration of graduates", and "capitalizing on the experience of AFD projects".
Presiding over the opening of this workshop, Mr. Mohamed Agrebi, Minister of Professional Training and Employment, stressed that Tunisia, the first country on the southern shore to sign an association agreement with the European Union, is convinced that training human resources, a source of wealth creation and employment, is the surest path to economic integration in the Euro-Mediterranean area.
He reviewed the main areas of development of professional training, in particular strengthening apprenticeship and work-study training, promoting the quality of professional training through international certifications and the creation of centers of excellence, in addition to the partnership approach in the development of contractual training.
The minister recalled, in this regard, the prominent place given by President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali to professional training in his electoral program for the 2009-2014 period, as a tool to support employment and improve the competitiveness of businesses through better productivity of human resources.
