Economic growth is on the horizon for Kenitra and the region.
The National Pact for Industrial Emergence (PNEI), signed under the effective Presidency of His Majesty King Mohammed VI on February 13, 2009 in Fes, is now being implemented. The Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Jamal Ghmani, and the Minister of Industry, Trade, and New Technologies, Ahmed Reda Chami, along with the Wali of the Gharb Chrarda Beni Hssen region and governor of the Kenitra province, Ahmed Moussaoui, presided over the ceremony laying the foundation stone of the Automotive Industry Training Institute (IFMIA).
Located within the new Atlantic Free Zone industrial platform, this technological establishment will be built on an area of approximately 18,000 m2. The Automotive Industry Training Institute will consist of a workshop block, classrooms, an administrative building, a dormitory, and a dining area. The total cost of this new project amounts to 75 million dirhams (40 million dirhams for construction and studies, and 35 million dirhams for equipment).
On this occasion, the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training announced that the institute is scheduled to open in May 2012. He added that this regional and national project aims to meet the needs of the National Pact for Industrial Emergence, which aspires to create 70,000 jobs in the automotive sector by 2015. The Minister also revealed that the IFMIA - AFZ Kenitra is one of four national institutes specializing in the automotive industry, after those in Tangier Med, Casablanca, and the Tangier Free Zone.
The Minister of Industry, Trade, and New Technologies pointed out that several multinational companies have chosen the Atlantic Free Zone industrial platform in Kenitra to invest in the automotive industry. This attractiveness of the industrial platform necessitated the creation of an institute specialized in the automotive sector to support this development and enable investors to have competent managers and professionals. He recalled that this sector has been chosen as one of Morocco's six global trades.
The management of the IFMIA - AFZ Kenitra is entrusted to the Atlantic Free Zone consortium, the Mon[x]dragon corporation, and the Chamber of Commerce of the Spanish city of Zaragoza, under a delegated management agreement concluded with the State. This newly created technological institute should become a regional reference in training and qualification. According to its initiators, this project, through its design and management method, is intended to become a technological showcase for the national automotive industry. Its mission will be to provide training for company personnel (operators, technicians, and middle managers in the automotive industry) before and after hiring, as well as continuing education during employment. The main objective of this training is to meet the skills needs of the automotive industry. In addition to this training, the IFMIA - AFZ Kenitra will provide other training in related fields, including automotive engineering, industrial management, purchasing, management, and human resources.
Attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Automotive Industry Training Institute were the president of the provincial council, the president of the urban municipality, heads of external services, civil and military authorities, and several national and international personalities.
AFZ Kenitra in brief
This project is part of a global and integrated urban planning vision. Initiated within the framework of the National Pact for Industrial Emergence, the Integrated Industrial Platform (P2I) of Kenitra is part of the deployment of a Morocco Offer for activities related to Morocco's Global Trades. It aims to offer the best welcoming spaces for investors operating in these trades, particularly those operating in the automotive sector. In addition to real estate offerings to the highest international standards and a varied range of services adapted to the needs of investors, part of the project will benefit from the status of an export free zone, thus strengthening its attractiveness. Indeed, this new industrial and logistics park includes two industrial zones: an Export Free Zone (199 ha), with tax and customs advantages, and an Open zone (146 ha), general and open to companies mainly targeting the national market. The industrial component of the Export Free Zone will be mainly dedicated to hosting automotive suppliers. The export-oriented activities of companies that can set up in this free zone are as follows: agri-food industry, textile and leather industries, metallurgical, mechanical, electrical and electronic industries including the automotive industry, chemical and parachemical industries.
