World Bank-Morocco: $100 Million to Boost Employment

The World Bank has just announced approval of a $100 million loan for Morocco to help stimulate hiring and improve job quality.

This loan is part of a four-billion-dollar loan program that the World Bank has committed to mobilizing over four years to accelerate reforms undertaken by the Cherifian kingdom and consolidate its infrastructure projects.

Entitled "second policy-based loan on skills and employment", the loan disbursed by the World Bank will be used in particular for the reform of education and training programs, with a view to establishing greater coherence between higher education, vocational training and the labor market.

Note that in Morocco, the unemployment rate for university graduates is above 20% and far exceeds that of the population (9.3% at the end of 2013).

On the other hand, and thanks to this loan, employment services will be restructured to make them more efficient and accessible, particularly to the most disadvantaged and least qualified segments of the population.
