The winners of the "Young Entrepreneur" prize have been announced since Saturday. For this 2014 edition, Arthur Zang received the first prize. The prizes are awarded each year by the Royal Society of London, one of the oldest academic institutions in the United Kingdom.
An invention that could be considered the first African medical tablet; this is the work that earned Arthur Zang the "Rolex Prize".
Called "Cardiopad", Arthur Zang's masterpiece is a touchscreen medical tablet that performs electrocardiograms to analyze cardiac activity and detect potentially fatal diseases.
A technology that has impressed many, but what makes the "Cardiopad" original is the possibility of using it in rural areas thanks to the long life of its battery. The results of the tests can also be sent directly to specialists using mobile phones.
At $2,000, the "Cardiopad" costs less than traditional electrocardiographs.
Four entrepreneurs from Rwanda, India, Italy, and Saudi Arabia were distinguished alongside Arthur Zang. Since 1976, the Rolex Prize has rewarded people under thirty whose innovative projects offer solutions that help protect the planet.
