1. Rule #1: Use the "plain text" email format

Remember that some companies can only receive emails in "plain text", as opposed to the "HTML" or "rtf - rich text" email format offered by Outlook for example (Format Menu).

2. Rule #2: The cover letter is concise and gets straight to the point

Online applications, like paper applications, consist of a CV and a cover letter. However, since reading on a screen is less easy than reading on paper, it is preferable to write a shorter cover letter, less than 1000 characters. In Word, a Tools/Statistics Menu allows you to quickly find out the number of characters in the selected text. The style is also more direct, gets straight to the point, without going through polite phrases.

3. Rule #3: The job offer reference must be in the email subject

The content of the electronic CV remains essentially the same as that of a paper CV. And for good reason, you had probably created it with a word processor before printing it!
To allow the company to quickly manage your application, include the job offer reference or job title in the subject of your email.

3. Rule #4: The cover letter must be in the body of the email message

It is preferable to write your cover letter directly in the body of the email message and not as an attachment. The company will directly access the content upon receipt of the email. In addition, in case of a problem related to attachments, the company will already have some information about you, in particular that allowing them to contact you.
