1. The Business Manager's role is multifaceted

He identifies and targets future business, studies calls for tenders, and must build loyalty and prospect clients in a given geographical area.

He negotiates and handles business in liaison with the company's general management and seeks partners (groups of companies, co-contractors, subcontractors...).

He coordinates technical studies and price studies to propose the best offer, writes the latter as well as the contracts and prepares the market file.

He can offer the client technical variations and project financing methods and, finally, he ensures the transfer of the file to the works teams.

2. Business Manager: His qualities

The Business Manager must have a good knowledge of his company's sector of activity, either through a solid technical background or through experience gained in the sector.

He is rigorous, has a real sense of negotiation, diplomacy and availability as well as creative imagination to propose variations to basic projects.

Finally, he is dynamic, organized and enjoys managing.

3. Business Manager: Where does he work?

The sales function, regardless of the sector concerned, requires numerous trips within a often large geographical radius. It can be carried out in France or abroad.

4. Business Manager: Who does he work with?

Internally, he works with General Management, the design and methods office and the works departments.

Externally, he works with clients, designers, consulting firms and suppliers and subcontractors.

5. Business Manager: Studies to follow

The sales function is open to engineers with a construction training (ESTP, ENSAM, etc.) and, increasingly, to graduates of business schools. In addition, holders of a Bac +2 (BTS building, DUT civil engineering, BTS sales,...) can also apply.

6. Business Manager: What career?

The sales function is accessible directly to beginners or to candidates with technical (studies) or works experience. It allows to move towards "purchasing" functions.

A good evolution in the sales sector allows to become Commercial Director or Agency Manager.
