Yes, I clearly distinguish between employer brand and HR marketing, even though the two are closely linked and feed each other. The employer brand reflects what we are deeply as a company. It is a strategic asset that is built for the long term. It reflects the reality of the employee experience, the candidate journey, and more broadly, the internal social climate.
HR marketing, on the other hand, is the tool or lever that allows us to highlight this employer brand through targeted actions. It is a more tactical approach, more focused on communication, which uses marketing codes to make our employer promise readable, credible, and desirable to our target audiences – whether internal or external.
The challenge today, for HR directors and leaders alike, is precisely not to confuse substance and form. A strong HR strategy is first and foremost based on a reality experienced by employees; HR marketing simply makes it visible. If we reverse this logic, we run the risk of falling into a superficial image, or even a misalignment between the projected image and the on-the-ground reality, which can permanently damage trust.
