Following the franchise agreement signed by Carrefour and Label'Vie, the first Carrefour hypermarket opened its doors this Wednesday, February 19.
As announced last week, the first hypermarket operated by Label'Vie under the Carrefour brand opened its doors in Salé on February 19.
The two distributors – the French Carrefour and the Moroccan Label'Vie – had signed an exclusive franchise agreement at the beginning of February, allowing Label'Vie to develop hypermarkets under the French brand throughout Morocco.
Label'Vie managers decided to start with Salé. Other cities in the country are eager to see Carrefour at their doors.
For the managers of the Moroccan distributor, through this agreement, Label'Vie is aligning itself with a global expert in the distribution sector, bringing to this partnership its experience in the establishment of hypermarkets and supermarkets, its know-how (purchasing, marketing and other operational aspects), its reputation and its brand image.
For its part, the French distributor finds in Label'Vie a credible partner with a deep knowledge of the Moroccan market, strong operational capabilities (purchasing center, operations, etc.) and a network of stores, as well as a secure development program.
The LABEL'VIE group, owner of the Label'Vie supermarkets, founded in 1985, has 40,000 daily customers (15 million customers per year) and 20 stores.
From now on, as its own management says, Label'Vie is becoming a multi-format distributor.
It will continue to develop supermarkets under the Label'Vie brand while launching the hypermarket format under the Carrefour brand.
Listed on the stock exchange since 2008, Label'Vie has a national development strategy that should lead it to open new points of sale, in supermarket and hypermarket formats. About thirty openings are planned by 2011 in Casablanca, Mohammedia, Sala Al Jadida, Agadir, Safi, Fes, Oujda, Tangier, Marrakech, Meknes…
More precisely, the 2008-2011 strategic plan provides for increasing the number of points of sale to 40 stores: 34 supermarkets and 6 hypermarkets.
Its CEO, Zouhair Bennani, sums it up: "Our ambition today is to continue our development in the distribution sector throughout the kingdom to become a full-fledged vector of the Moroccan economy. To do this, we simply continue to rely on the concepts and methods that have proven themselves for over 23 years to meet the daily expectations of our customers."
