Avoid the Sunday Night Blues in 6 Steps

Yes, Sunday evenings are for sighing in front of the television… Yes, it’s hard to avoid the slight blues that precede the start of the week. Even if you love your job.

Here are six tips to console the downcast and fight the Monday morning syndrome.

1. Prepare your Monday as early as Friday.

Yes, it is possible to leave your office on Friday evening having tidied everything up, filed it and planned your schedule for Monday… You just need to decide and dedicate fifteen minutes to it each weekend. The stress of returning will be lessened, even eliminated.

2. Organize small pleasures for Monday.

Choose pleasure as a motivator. Allow yourself some special freedoms on Monday morning, such as listening to your favorite songs for a few minutes, taking the time to watch a video on the web and/or wearing a new outfit that you particularly like. Avoid falling back into your daily routine immediately and decide to plan, organize, schedule an outing with your friends/colleagues for the evening. This will motivate you and put a smile back on your face throughout the day.

3. Go to bed early on Sunday.

Perhaps it is not in vain to sleep a few extra hours on Sunday evening, rather than lounging around sighing in the living room. You will gain more energy than the few hours lost zapping the TV. Worries will seem less complex to manage if you are in shape, dynamic and positive.

4. Drink in moderation.

While it’s true that a cup of coffee is an energizer for many, it remains that in large quantities, it depletes energy. Know how to stay moderate and limit yourself to one cup. Why not compensate with a small square of dark chocolate to treat yourself?

5. Do what you enjoy.

On Monday (and why not other days too?), try to organize yourself to do things as you see fit. So, if you prefer to start the week with meetings, go for it! If, on the other hand, you feel too misanthropic that day, focus your attention on the report to write or your emails… Know how to organize for pleasure, without forgetting efficiency.

6. Have lunch in good company.

Avoid eating alone in front of your computer, on Monday lunchtime, if you eat at the office. Allow yourself the luxury of having lunch in good company, wherever you are. If you find it boring to be accompanied at midday, plan a delightful snack break.
