King Mohammed VI Launches Major Tourism Projects in Marrakech

King Mohammed VI launched several large-scale tourism projects in Marrakech on Thursday. The projects represent a total investment of nearly 30 billion DH. The King also reviewed the progress of other tourism projects in the area.
The King officially started the development of the "Chrifia" tourism project. This 4.6 billion DH project is a partnership between the Sama Dubai Group and the Compagnie Générale Immobilière (CGI), part of the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG).
This project, covering 268 hectares, is part of the major tourism projects transforming Marrakech.
This integrated tourism project includes a golf course, hotels, residential areas, and recreational facilities.
This project will boost the Marrakech region’s economy and attractiveness, supporting the King’s 2010 tourism vision.
Located on the road between Marrakech and Tahanaoute, in Tasseltante, this project promotes diverse, integrated tourism, using the area’s cultural and geographical advantages.
The project includes an 18-hole golf course, 10 hotels with 1,800 beds (including luxury and 4-star hotels, guesthouses, a holiday village, and tourist residences).
It also features a 4-star business hotel, 1,780 residential units (including villas and apartments), recreational facilities, a wellness center, a sports center, a clinic, an irrigation museum, craft workshops, an organic farm, restaurants, and shops.
The King also reviewed other tourism projects showing the city’s investment dynamism and economic growth.
These projects reflect the King’s development strategy.
Between 2003 and 2007, 913 tourism projects (total investment: 112 billion DH) were approved, creating 75,888 jobs and increasing hotel capacity to 95,616 beds.
Tourism accounts for 71% of the region’s total investment. Hotel capacity increased from 5,000 beds in 2003 to 35,000 last year.
The projects reviewed by the King include the Assoufid tourist and residential complex, the Samanah Country Club Marrakech, the Palm Golf Resort, the Jnane Marrakech project, the New Hivernage project, the Douja Golf Resort, and the Zahrat Ennakhil project.
Located in Saâda, the Assoufid complex covers 222 hectares, with a total investment of 1.7 billion DH.
To be completed in 2012, this project includes an 18-hole golf course, a golf academy, a 350-bed hotel, 100 villas, and Ryads.
The Samanah Country Club Marrakech, in Tamesloht, covers 282 hectares and represents a 3 billion DH investment.
Started in December 2006 for completion in 2010, this project includes an 18-hole golf course, three 5-star hotels (1,086 beds), 108 Ryads, 485 villas, and a village square with restaurants and shops.
The Palm Golf Resort (Ennakhil area) covers 190 hectares and includes an 18-hole golf course, three luxury hotels (340 rooms and 80 pavilions), four residential areas, 128 villas, and shops. Work started in July 2006 and should finish by the end of 2010.
The Jnane Marrakech project (near the Fes and Ouarzazate roads) is a 4.5 billion DH investment by the Spanish FADESA group over 258 hectares.
Started in May 2007, this project includes an 18-hole golf course, a tourism zone, two hotels, two tourist residences, four holiday villages, commercial and leisure facilities, and a residential area.
The Addoha Group will also build the New Hivernage project in Marrakech, covering 189 hectares and representing a 4.7 billion DH investment.
Starting this August and finishing in 2012, this project includes a 60-hectare golf course, two hotels (335 beds), a 65-hectare residential area, a commercial area, a 6-hectare business center, and a 10-hectare artificial lake.

With a total investment of 4 billion DH, this project, developed by the Addoha and Douja Promotion groups, will cover 252 hectares.
It will include an 18-hole golf course, a hotel, 40 villas, 500 apartments, 564 traditional apartments, 102 shops, and sports clubs (tennis, swimming, and horse riding).
The Zahrat Ennakhil project, located in Bab Al Atlas (Fes road), covers 181 hectares and was developed by the Medz Group.
This 2.8 billion DH project includes 11 hotel and tourism units, 29 residential units, 24 villas, and a 10-hectare green space.
This project will create 2,600 direct and 13,000 indirect jobs.
Upon arrival, the King reviewed a Royal Guard honor guard. He was greeted by the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, the Wali of the Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz region, the President of the Regional Council, the Governor of El Haouz province, the Director General of the CDG, the President of the Prefectoral Council, the President of the Tasseltanet municipality, CEOs of tourism companies involved in these projects, and other officials.
