The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is holding a roundtable discussion on SME financing on Wednesday, November 14th at the Golden Tulip El Mechtel Hotel.
This event is part of the joint program "YEM" ("Engaging Tunisian Youth in Achieving the Millennium Development Goals") with a 2013 horizon.
The program aims to encourage the public and private sectors to establish new employment mechanisms better suited to the specific needs of young unemployed graduates and non-graduates in the Tunis, Kef, and Gafsa regions. These are new communication and dialogue tools within a more receptive framework for exchanges designed by UNIDO.
The initiative also aims to raise awareness among financial institutions and the private sector about the challenges of financing startups, very small enterprises (VSEs), and SMEs, and the difficulties young entrepreneurs face in self-financing their projects. Without guarantees, these young people cannot obtain credit and finance their projects, especially in disadvantaged regions.
The roundtable on Wednesday the 14th will take stock of existing financing mechanisms and tools in Tunisia that facilitate financing projects led by young entrepreneurs in the target regions, particularly the contribution of equity.
A report entitled "SME Financing in Tunisia" has been prepared for the occasion by UNIDO and will be presented by expert Ibrahim Anane.
The limitations of these financing mechanisms will be discussed, and recommendations will be gathered to propose improvements to the functioning of these tools so that they best meet the expectations of young entrepreneurs and the government's objectives in terms of business creation and employment.
Participants will include, among others, the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) and support organizations such as the BFPME, the BTS, the Caisse des dépôts et de consignation, the API, and the Foprodex.
Civil society associations and project leaders will also participate.
Alaya Bettaieb, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, will open the roundtable.
