GIMAS: Morocco's aeronautics industry takes flight

Lemag: Morocco is establishing itself as a new base for the global aeronautics industry. Its exports in this sector have exceeded expectations, justifying new, large ambitions.
Hamid Benbrahim El-Andaloussi, president of the Moroccan Aeronautics and Space Industries Group (GIMAS), announced that Moroccan companies' aeronautics exports reached a consolidated export result of 1 billion dollars in 2013.
This sector, says El Andaloussi, is becoming a growing contributor to the volume of overall Moroccan exports, accounting for 6%, with an upward trend expected in the future.
According to GIMAS, the aeronautics sector has seen a dramatic increase in exports over 10 years. It only accounted for 0.5% of the total export volume 10 years ago. The number of companies has also grown from 10 to 106 in 2013.
In terms of employment, the Moroccan aeronautics sector has also broken records, creating 10,000 highly skilled jobs, mainly for young people under 30, including 50% women.
Hamid Benbrahim El-Andaloussi concluded his remarks, reported by the French-language newsletter Infomediaire, by stating that the goal for Morocco in the coming years is to double the size of its aeronautics sector by 2020, in terms of investment, employment, and exports, reaching a consolidated export result of 2 billion dollars.
