The number of businesses created during the first half of 2012 saw a 14% increase, while the number of approved projects and the total value of investments decreased by 14.4% and 22.7% respectively, Interior Minister Mohand Laenser announced Monday.
Presenting his department's budget proposal to the House of Representatives' committee on interior, local authorities, housing, and urban policy, Mr. Laenser stated that his department, aware of the need to develop the mechanisms and areas of action of the Regional Investment Centers (RICs), is working on a draft organic law on the decentralized management of investment and the organization of the work of the regional investment commission.
This project will be based on the results of the study conducted on the strategic positioning of RICs, while materializing the regional dimension in the area of improving the business climate, he emphasized.
The ministry has worked to monitor the activities and performance of RICs, activate mechanisms for decentralized investment management, aiming to improve the business climate and encourage structuring projects at the regional level, being a major lever for job creation and strengthening regional dynamism, he indicated.
Regarding price control, the minister stressed that this year has been marked by an increased presence of control services on the ground to prevent any market imbalance, particularly regarding the prices of regulated and subsidized products, noting that in the first seven months of the current year, 2,088 fines were issued, compared to 1,750 during the same period last year, an increase of 20%.
These irregularities mainly relate to the non-display of prices (1,660 cases), alongside the lack of invoices, illegal price increases, non-transit through the wholesale market, and monopolies, among others.
The budget allocated to the Ministry of the Interior for 2013 amounts to nearly 22.18 billion dirhams, with operating expenses totaling nearly 18.36 billion dirhams and investment expenses at 3.81 billion dirhams.
