Aerospace Industries: Creation of 4,000 jobs and 100 companies within 5 years

Tunisian Action Plan for the aerospace industry aims to increase the number of companies operating in this sector from 50 to 150 within five years, stated Lamine Chakhari, Minister of Industry and Technology, on Monday, September 24, 2012 in Tunis.

"The goal is to double the number of jobs for university graduates, increasing it from 6,000 to 10,000," the minister highlighted during the opening of the 3rd edition of the International Business Convention Aerospace Meetings Tunisia (September 24-27, 2012).
To do this, he said, there will be a diversification of markets for industrial exchanges and the opening of the Tunisian industry to new markets in line with technological and economic developments on the international scene, while further prioritizing the creation of added value.

To ensure the success of this action plan for the aerospace industry, Riadh Bettaieb, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, indicated that the action will focus on training, noting that nearly 5,000 people will be trained in the coming years in aerospace professions (engineers, senior technicians and qualified operators).
Regarding the challenges to be met to guarantee the growth of the aerospace industries, Noureddine Zekri, Director General of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA), specified during his speech that these mainly reside in the development of human resources, the reduction of regional inequalities, due to the fact that the majority of aerospace industries are located in Greater Tunis, and the achievement of global integration.
For Gaby Lopez, president of the Grouping of Tunisian Aerospace and Space Industries (GITAS), Tunisia has strong potential for the development of this industry, thanks in particular to a specialized and competent workforce.

In 2011, the number of graduates from higher education schools and specialized training centers in aeronautics reached 65,000 and 35,000 students respectively.
Furthermore, 4,500 engineers and senior technicians are trained annually in the field of aerospace industries.
