Banque Populaire Supports Moroccan Expats Investing in Morocco

La Banque Populaire Group's Business Creation Foundation and the Agency for International Cooperation and Local Development in the Mediterranean launched a program to promote entrepreneurship in Morocco and highlight the skills of Moroccan citizens abroad.

The Business Creation Foundation of the Banque Populaire Group (FCE) and the Agency for International Cooperation and Local Development in the Mediterranean (ACIM) held the second "Meetings with Investors from the Moroccan Diaspora" in Casablanca.
For both organizations, the goal is to work together to promote entrepreneurship in Morocco and highlight the skills of Moroccans abroad. Fifty new project leaders will receive financial and technical support.

To better focus their efforts on entrepreneurship, the FCE and ACIM also announced a support program for Moroccan investors worldwide who want to start businesses in Morocco.
This first 2011-2013 edition targets 50 Moroccan diaspora investors who will receive support in France from ACIM and in Morocco from FCE through workshops (information, networking) and personalized support. Selection will take place in two sessions (May and October), each showcasing 25 projects.

A well-defined process by the FCE and its trainer, ACIM: "Since 2009, we have focused our efforts on our fellow countrymen from the Moroccan diaspora, particularly in France. Currently, we have around 1,600 economically created businesses across various regions, with a total budget of 890 million DH, generating around 7,000 direct jobs. Since 2010, we have over 150 businesses created by Moroccans abroad," underlined Abdelhak El Marsli, Secretary General of the Banque Populaire Foundation for Business Creation (FBPCE).

"Training business creation support facilitators is our core business. For this second session, we have a wide range of areas, including mobile money transfers, elevator installation, education, agriculture, tourism, etc.," said Tahar Rahmani, ACIM's General Delegate.
This program is supported by the African Development Bank's (AfDB) Migration and Development Fund and the French Ministry of the Interior's General Secretariat for Immigration and Integration.

This support and guidance marks a new phase in relations between the second generation of Moroccan residents abroad and their home country. Morocco maintains its attractiveness at a time when investment is becoming rarer. This attractiveness stems from several factors: a young and educated workforce, confirmed economic and political stability, and very competitive social and tax costs. While France and Spain are major partners exploiting these opportunities, it is normal for the Moroccan diaspora, known for its expertise and know-how, to discover and develop a market where there is still so much to contribute.

ACIM: Training Trainers

ACIM is an international cooperation agency created in 2005 in Marseille. To date, it has trained and helped create over 600 business creation actors from the private and associative sectors in the Maghreb. Its programs focus on training support staff and microcredit agents on business creation support, training executives, directors, and association managers.
