Professional Training: A Sector Offering Promising Job Prospects for Young People

Professional training remains one of the sectors offering the most promising job prospects for young people and, as a result, focuses on the sustained efforts of the State to make it a lever for the qualification of human resources, young people in particular. It is, in fact, a matter of providing them with the necessary skills and know-how to facilitate their access to the job market and thus contribute to the dynamic of economic and social development in which the kingdom is engaged.

This sector indeed occupies a preponderant place in public policies, which now attach increased importance to training in new trades and new technologies, relating in particular to construction and public works, the automotive industry, aviation, agri-food and renewable energies. In this context, the figures are highly significant. For the 2012-2013 school year, the number of trainees in training in the various professional training institutions reached 390,000, compared to 327,749 last year, an increase of 19%.
Of this figure, the Office of Vocational Training and Labour Promotion (OFPPT) alone hosts 310,000 students, an exceptional increase of 438% compared to the situation 10 years ago (2002-2003). These figures show the growing interest that professional training institutions arouse among young people, eager to acquire the tools and mechanisms necessary for their integration into working life.

In order to accommodate the ever-increasing number of young people, 29 new training structures have been created in the public sector covering various productive sectors, including 20 under the OFPPT, bringing the number of professional training establishments in the public sector to 526 and 327 under the OFPPT, located in the different regions of the kingdom. The opening of 58 private establishments with a capacity of 3,000 teaching places has also been authorized, requiring an investment of 24,000,000 DH, which has led to the creation of 200 permanent jobs. There are now some 1,566 private training centers operating in Morocco, of which 337 are accredited and deliver diplomas recognized by the State.
In order to bring professional training services closer to young people in rural areas, 15 new boarding schools have been built with a capacity to accommodate approximately 3,000 beds. Nine of these boarding schools are under the OFPPT, while the other six have been opened in gradual training centers in rural areas.

In this context, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, aware of the central place of young people in the social fabric, has been strongly committed to the program for the creation of new training and qualification structures, with the aim of contributing to the opening of new horizons for this important segment of society.
The significant number of training structures initiated by the Foundation, in partnership with many stakeholders, including the OFPPT, with the contribution of all the means necessary for their operation (human and material resources), clearly demonstrates its unconditional adherence to its close involvement in supporting young people.
Improving the quality of vocational training is undoubtedly one of the major challenges to be met, given the new characteristics of the changes affecting the job market.
In this context, measures have been taken to develop this sector. The creation of the National Institute for the Training of Trainers has thus been decided, the objective being to ensure quality training and to meet the needs of businesses for specialized skills. A strategy for the development of the sector will also be launched shortly.

Designed from a precise diagnosis of the situation of vocational training, this strategy opens up prospects for the development of this sector considered as one of the pillars of investment and economic and social development of the Kingdom. This strategy aims in particular to make the vocational training sector more flexible and interactive, so that it can meet the needs of the job market and the growing demands for training, particularly in new sectors.
