A few years ago, the job search consisted of writing a handwritten cover letter, printing several resumes, and sending unsolicited applications by mail to companies in the sector(s) of interest. But that has changed considerably since then…
The channels for distributing resumes have never been so numerous. Between job sites, blogs, Facebook, Viadeo, Twitter, in short, virtual social networks, we have become real job seekers 2.0.
How to intelligently use all these tools?
Knowing how to Google yourself
Recruiters will try to learn more about applicants by doing a search on their favorite search engine. If you have a blog, be aware that your blog will appear in a good position, those on which you have written or those that talk about you. Your Facebook profile will also appear among the groups to which you belong… Your digital identity can work for or against you! It may be time to delete your profile from dubious sites or crazy photos on Facebook…
Commenting on other people's blogs
Good ideas often come from collective reflection. Participating in Chats, discussions on a blog, is entering the playing field that is the blogosphere. You can exchange with other bloggers, compare your ideas with those of your readers, ask for advice… A real brainstorming session. This can be very useful for advancing your professional project.
Knowing how to use virtual networks
Today, all recruiters are on Facebook, Twitter, and Viadeo. So, know how to intelligently build your network if you want to get recruited through this method. A Facebook profile that spends its time opening cookies or playing Yo-ville will surely not attract the interest of a recruiter. Know how to communicate by writing articles or reacting to people's posts on certain groups…Good luck!
