Nearly 800 Arab business leaders are expected in Tunisia for the 6th Arab Meeting of Small and Medium-sized Industries (SMIs), to be held from April 24-26 in Tunis.
This announcement was made Monday at the TAP by Ferid Tounsi, director general of the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII).
Development needs industrial investments, and Arab investors would be well-advised to shift towards this type of job and wealth-creating investment, as speculative investment has been hard hit by the repercussions of the international financial crisis.
The Tunis meeting, themed "SMIs, an engine of employment and development," will be jointly organized by the APII, the Arab Organization for Industrial Development and Mining under the League of Arab States, and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) group.
Participants in this meeting will discuss various topics, including "support and financing of SMIs in Tunisia and Arab countries," "SMIs and job opportunities for young people and women," "upgrading and innovation in strengthening the competitiveness of SMIs," and "Arab and international programs for supporting and financing SMIs."
By hosting this type of meeting, Tunisia hopes to raise awareness among Arab investors of the need to link development and job creation, especially for young people facing long-term unemployment and who are currently driving revolutions and social change in the Arab world.
