Germany converts 30 million euros of Tunisian debt into development projects

(Ecofin Agency) - Germany (2011 GDP: €3750 billion; Population: 82 million) has started converting the last part of a remaining bilateral debt of €30 million owed by Tunisia into development projects.

New projects in wastewater treatment, drinking water supply, the environment and training will be developed and implemented, prioritizing the most disadvantaged regions of Tunisia (2011 GDP: $45.8 billion; Population: 10.6 million).

On this occasion, Hans-Jurgen Beerfeltz (photo), German Secretary of State for Development, highlighted his country’s willingness to initiate a strategic partnership with Tunisia, prioritizing the development of job-creating SMEs. “We want to intensify economic cooperation between Tunisian and German small and medium-sized enterprises because we know that we can create sustainable SMEs to promote development and job creation,” said Hans-Jurgen Beerfeltz.
