In a context marked by crisis, eight major industrial projects were launched in late 2008 and early 2009 in several regions of Tunisia, a sign of industrial dynamism supported by an investment incentive system.
President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali focused on monitoring the evolution of the industrial situation and the progress of major industrial projects being launched in regional development zones, providing directives to ensure that all conditions for success are met.
The Head of State was interested in the progress of the implementation of the measures he had ordered to accelerate the pace of industrial investments and strengthen the sector's employment capacity.
In terms of investment, the sector attracting the largest financing concerns the manufacture of automotive wire harnesses. Six major groups have invested in inland regions such as Béja, Gafsa, Siliana, Jendouba, Kairouan, and Kasserine.
According to the industry promotion agency (API), the Austro-Swiss company "KROMBERG & SCHUBERT" has established itself in the Béja-Nord Industrial Zone, with an investment of 43.29 million dinars (MD), creating 1600 jobs out of the planned 4000.
The Japanese company "YAZAKI TUNISIA SARL", located in the El Aguila Industrial Zone (Gafsa), has a planned investment of 42 MD, of which 9.3 MD has already been implemented. The planned job creation is around 3000 positions (599 created).
Its compatriot, "SOMITOMO ELECTRIC BORDNETZE", has established itself in the Boussalem Industrial Zone (Jendouba) with a planned investment of 12.75 MD, of which 5 MD has already been implemented, and the potential creation of 300 jobs.
In the same line of business, the German group "COROPLAST TUNISIA SARL" plans an investment of 31.7 MD in the Kef industrial zone, with a forecast of 1923 jobs.
The group of the same nationality, "DRAXLMAIER", created the company "SYSTEME AUTOMOBILE ET TECHNIQUE DE SILIANA" and chose the industrial zone in this region to invest 26 MD for 1650 jobs.
The sixth group, the South Korean "YURA CORPORATION", active in the manufacture of insulated wires and cables, has established itself in the industrial zone along the Tunis-Kairouan road with a planned investment of 25 MDT and around 3500 jobs.
In the footwear manufacturing sector, a significant investment of 98 MD has been made by the Swiss and German group "RITUN". The latter is setting up a factory in the Ain Soltane Zone (Sbikha-Kairouan). The financing already disbursed is around 43 MD, with planned job creation of 4200.
As for the textile sector, BENETTON MANUFACTURING TUNISIA SARL (Netherlands and Luxembourg) has created a textile platform in the Rue de Tela Kasserine Industrial Zone. The group plans an investment of 4.4 MDT (80 jobs).
Urban beautification, the promotion of popular neighborhoods, and the strengthening of the health sector are also among the projects.
