Morocco in the Top 40 Tourist Destinations

Marrakech beats Paris and New York in the ranking of the 25 best destinations in the world.
While its neighbors struggle to recover from the consequences of the Arab Spring on their tourism industry, Morocco stands out with a promising impact of the sector on its economy. This is revealed by the figures of the World Tourism Travel Council (WTTC), defining the Kingdom as the leading tourist destination in North Africa. In 2013, tourism accounted for 18.7% of Morocco's GDP, representing some $19.7 billion.
The sector provided jobs for 1.8 million people, or about 16.7% of total employment in the country. During this period, visitors generated some $8.78 billion in revenue, and this figure is expected to increase by 10.1% in 2014.
In terms of investment, the amount of tourism projects in the country exceeds $3.5 billion, representing more than 11% of total national investment. The WTTC expects a further increase in this amount in 2014. This led to Morocco being ranked 38th among tourist destinations.
In addition, the famous American tourism website Trip Advisor has just released its 2014 ranking of the 25 best destinations in the world, which saw the return of Marrakech to the top of the ranking,
In this new rating, which is based on user reviews, both in terms of quality and quantity, indicates that the ochre city occupies 6th place ahead of Paris and New York which plummets to 12th place. The Moroccan city thus gains 13 places compared to last year where it was ranked 19th.
Note that this year, it is Istanbul that takes the lead, dethroning Paris, a tourist destination par excellence, which however remains in the top 10 with 7th place. Rome and London complete the podium.
