Morocco: Iberia's Most Important African Market (Iberia President)

Speaking at a reception for the inauguration of the first air link between Rabat and Madrid, Mr. Vazquez stated that Morocco is a priority market for Iberia, expressing hope to further consolidate this leadership in the coming years.

"We are convinced that this new service will encourage investment and tourist arrivals," he added, noting that "this new route confirms Iberia's long-standing commitment to Morocco, a destination that is confirmed as the most important in Africa."

For his part, the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, Alberto José Navarro, emphasized the importance of this first air link between the capitals of the two Kingdoms, recalling that the opening of this new route coincided with a "historic" date, July 1st, marking the holding of the Referendum on the draft new constitution in Morocco.

The Spanish diplomat also stressed that the new Moroccan constitution "will allow the Kingdom to deepen democratic reforms and will undoubtedly place the country at the forefront of the Arab world."

For his part, the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaër Region, Hassan Amrani, highlighted the importance of the opening of this air route on the Rabat-Madrid axis.

Currently, Iberia offers 20 weekly flights between Spain and Moroccan airports. In 2010, more than 220,000 passengers traveled between Spain and Morocco aboard flights of the Spanish company.

Iberia will offer 293,000 seats on its flights to Morocco in 2011.
