Morocco: A Booming Hub

The Moroccan aeronautics sector has seen "significant" growth over the last decade thanks to government efforts, said Ahmed Fassi Fihri, Investment Director of the Moroccan Agency for Investment Development (AMDI).

"The number of companies operating in the aeronautics sector increased from 10 to 100 between 2001 and 2011, and the volume of exports increased exceptionally to reach one billion dollars," Fassi Fihri highlighted in an opinion piece published Sunday by the Spanish newspaper "La Razon" in its electronic edition.

In the same context, the AMDI Investment Director highlighted the confidence of major global aeronautics manufacturers, noting that the establishment of these companies in the Kingdom is similarly giving a new impetus to the sector's development in the coming years. He cited, in this regard, the Canadian company "Bombardier," which will set up a new generation industrial production unit in Morocco starting in 2013, with an investment of 200 million dollars.

The decision of major global aeronautical manufacturers to set up in Morocco reflects the Kingdom's emergence as a booming hub for the global aeronautical industry. It also represents an opportunity to develop Moroccan-Spanish cooperation in this field, said Fassi Fihri.

Cooperation between Morocco and Spain can make these two countries "two major aeronautical hubs in Europe and Africa," he concluded.
