Morocco is a leading country in the telecommunications field in Africa, says Samir Ben Makhlouf, CEO of Microsoft Morocco.
"The Kingdom is very advanced in the field," he stated during the closing of the third edition of the Africa Telecom Forum in Marrakech on Friday.
Mr. Ben Makhlouf acknowledges that much work remains to catch up with developed countries. Internationally, Morocco ranks 81st, and "we absolutely must take a big step forward," he said.
He continued by saying that Morocco possesses all the assets to position itself among the world's leading countries in this field: competent human resources, a high rate of electrification; it just needs to change the way it educates, he added.
Mr. Ben Makhlouf announced that 70 million jobs will be created in Africa in the next 10 years, but unfortunately there will be 170 million job seekers, a deficit of 100 million jobs.
He also noted that in terms of innovation, Africa must innovate in this area instead of simply being a consumer, adding that 95% of Africans do not have access to the Internet.
Telecoms and new technologies have become a single sector, he said, emphasizing that the Africa Telecom Forum is an opportunity to share experiences and services and how Africa can integrate all these technological changes and this information explosion.
He noted that, in terms of opportunities, Africa has many operators, equipment manufacturers and development structures in terms of innovation in the field, observing that this continent only needs support to achieve this growth.
Under the theme: "IT and Telecoms: Opportunities for Africa," the Africa Telecom Forum saw the participation of over 150 participants from about twenty countries.
Initiated by i-conferences, an agency specializing in organizing conferences dedicated to Africa, in partnership with Maroc Telecom and Microsoft, this forum is intended to be a crossroads for IT and telecommunication professionals in North, Central and West Africa.
It serves as an opportunity to focus on the latest technological innovations as well as on the solutions and applications offered to promote the telecommunications sector in Africa, while promoting the exchange and sharing of knowledge and expertise in this field.
This edition's program includes conferences and workshops aimed at highlighting technological innovations and revolutions in the fields of IT and telecommunications, with a particular focus on enterprise Telecom, SVAs, Cloud Computing, as well as an exchange of experiences between key players in each sector.
"Technological innovations in telecommunications, evolving needs of corporations and new orientations of telephone operators," "Challenges of new SVA models," "Telecoms in Africa between constraints and opportunities," "Innovative solutions for changing businesses" and "Information and communication technologies: opportunities and new legal challenges," are the main themes to be discussed at this forum.
