The ICT Sector Employs 700,000 Employees
Mr. Afif Chelbi, Minister of Industry and Technology, stated in the CetimeNews magazine (Cetime publication) that the industry and ICT sector employs nearly 700,000 employees, and that 400,000 of these jobs are directly related to exports.
Mr. Chelbi specified that jobs in industry provide a source of income for more than 3 million people, representing almost a third of the Tunisian population.
He commended the dedication of industrialists and employees who, in most cases, were able to preserve the means of production at the risk of their lives, while recalling that "almost all companies continued to work for the local market and for export. The country's supply of food products, electricity, petroleum products, and telecom services was ensured." He paid tribute to the workers in these sectors who mobilized day and night to provide their services.
The minister also highlighted the various mechanisms made available to entrepreneurs to help them work in the best conditions, namely "the business support unit, for their managers and employees." This unit, recently established in 24 governorates, is tasked with resolving certain short-term problems and engaging in dialogue in collaboration with the union partner.
