Unemployment Rate in Tunisia Reaches 15% in 2014

The unemployment rate in Tunisia is estimated at 15%, according to the results of the national survey on population and employment in the fourth quarter of 2014 conducted by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Thus, the number of unemployed people is 600,500 out of a total active population estimated at 4,014,000.

According to this quarterly employment survey, the number of unemployed graduates from higher education reached 227,000 in the fourth quarter of 2014, representing an unemployment rate of 30.9%.

This rate is distributed as 12.5% among men and 21.1% among women. The distribution according to gender of the active population is 2,885,000 men and 1,129,000 women, representing 71.9% and 28.1% of the active population respectively.

According to the INS, the number of employed people in the fourth quarter of 2014 was 3,413,000, including 2,523,000 men and 890,400 women. The employed are distributed among the sectors of activity, with 15.4% in the agriculture and fishing sector, 18.6% in the manufacturing sector, 14.5% in the non-manufacturing sector, and 51.5% in the services sector.
