Team Building is just a waste of time: these are the conclusions of a study published by the University of Chester.
Team Building activities do not help to strengthen bonds or improve coherence between workers in the same team.
Indeed, a study of about a hundred people who play team sports showed that there was no link between people's attachment to the group and how regularly they participated in these activities.
The research conclusions show that playing paintball or rappelling down a cliff with colleagues is not very useful in terms of team spirit among colleagues.
No link between team building and team spirit
For Dr. Moira Lafferty of the University of Chester, who conducted this study with her colleagues from the University of Liverpool Hope: "Our research shows that despite the lack of a link between this type of activity and the team spirit that animates colleagues who work together, we still organize them anyway."
Why? Because, the study indicates, behind the notion of Team Building, hides that of "initiation", a less politically correct phenomenon that is part of the culture of some companies without being acknowledged as such.
