The integration of new information and communication technologies in the textile-clothing sector is increasingly essential in the process of improving the competitiveness of businesses. Hence the advantages granted by the State to textile-clothing companies, given the weight and importance of this sector. However, the integration of ICTs in this sector is below potential.
It is in this context that the Monastir - El Fejja / La Manouba competitiveness cluster, mfcpole, the Elgazala Communication Technologies cluster, the Sfax cluster and Marseille innovation are organizing the 8th Mediterranean Business Meetings on June 10 and 11, 2010, at the Elgazala cluster, under the theme: "ICTs at the service of the competitiveness of textile companies in Tunisia".
The ultimate objective of this event is to offer Tunisian companies increasingly integrated and innovative assistance and support services. In this regard, new information and communication technologies are both tools to improve the production and management of textile products and services, but also promising business areas.
"Mass-Customization" or the personalization of mass production, is one of the promising areas. It is a question of making the Tunisian textile company capable of offering the customer the unique product they want, at a price comparable to that of mass production, using new tools and adapted production and management approaches. So, what should the business leader do to apply this concept?
To address this issue, Ms. Isabelle ZELLER, general manager of the French competitiveness cluster UP-TEX, indicated that the business leader must successfully integrate a multitude of tools that allow for the evolution towards mass customization by offering examples and analyses that will guide the company in choosing the tools best suited to its situation. It is therefore "Mass-Customization" that succeeds mass production, the relevance of which has now ceased in many industries.
To this end, all speakers agree that the textile company in Tunisia must change its model to survive, which requires high-performing production tools connected to an order-taking process that allows specifying the desired characteristics and measurements.
