Are you a motivated person?
Do you wake up every morning wanting to change the world?
If not, don't worry, you are part of the majority. However, this article will help you identify where your lack of motivation comes from.
Do you possess the four key factors of individual motivation which are: hope, passion, growth, and recognition?
1) HOPE
Do you have dreams, exciting and stimulating projects to accomplish? The word motivation comes from the words "motif" and "action".
To be motivated, therefore, we need reasons.
The rule is simple: no reason, no possible motivation. What motivates us is lack, and it is precisely the hope of filling this lack that pushes us to act. In order to motivate yourself, give yourself a cathedral to build. Always seek to achieve a future more exciting than yesterday and more thrilling than today.
It is not possession, but rather the anticipation of possession that motivates people. We are only truly motivated when we seek to conquer something. Sagouine said in this regard: "Happiness is not having it, it's knowing that you're going to have it!" It is the anticipation of a better future that stimulates and excites us the most.
2) PASSION
If you won a million dollars, would you keep your current job? If the answer is no, what would you do? When we are freed from all financial pressure, we choose to do what we are truly passionate about. If you don't like your current job, prepare a better future for yourself, because it will be impossible to be motivated if you feel resentment towards your work.
People who don't enjoy their work are easily identifiable: they mostly use "motivational substitutes" such as tobacco, alcohol, drugs, gambling, television, shopping, or food. It is said, however, that individuals on the road to an exciting project are invulnerable, tireless, invincible, and immortal. Immortal in the sense that these people only die around the age of 93.
3) GROWTH
Has your work become routine? Repetition is extremely demotivating. To be motivated, an individual must feel that they are constantly growing and improving. In life, we either move forward or backward. There is no stationary state. For a system to function well, it needs stimulation and constant evolution. Like the members of our bodies, our mental faculties shrink and atrophy when we don't use them.
Motivated people constantly study. They continually seek to learn new things, to improve themselves, to discover secret principles, hidden rules. They do not hesitate to consult other people who have achieved success before them and who can enrich their experiences and knowledge.
4) RECOGNITION
Do you receive a lot of encouragement in your work? The need to feel appreciated and recognized is the deepest feeling of human nature. If there is one thing that people want even more than money and sex, it is the need to feel appreciated. Often, people who suffer from a lack of motivation actually suffer from a lack of appreciation. To be motivated in the long term, it is important to receive recognition from privileged others (colleagues, family, friends).
Just as cars need gas to move forward, humans need recognition to be motivated.
The next time you lack motivation, ask yourself which key factors you are missing. Remember, in conclusion, that it is impossible to fail when you are motivated.
