Tourism opportunities presented in Barcelona

Lahcen Haddad presents to Catalan operators in Barcelona the opportunities for tourism investment in Morocco.

The business and investment opportunities offered by Morocco, as well as the main orientations of the Vision 2020 tourism strategy, were at the center of several working meetings held on Thursday and Friday in Barcelona by the Minister of Tourism, Lahcen Haddad, with Catalan tourism operators.

During these meetings, held with about fifteen operators, managers of several hotel groups, financial institutions and the Confederation of Entrepreneurial and Business Organizations of Catalonia (Foment), the minister emphasized the competitiveness of the Moroccan tourism sector which, thanks to "Vision 2020", has been able to put in place important development levers and attract more foreign investment.

In a statement on Saturday to MAP-Madrid, Haddad stressed that these "fruitful" meetings were an opportunity to present to Catalan operators the major projects launched in Morocco and the investment opportunities in the tourism sector, taking into account the importance of Vision 2020.

This vision aims to double the size of the sector and to raise Morocco among the top 20 global tourist destinations by 2020, Haddad specified during these meetings, highlighting the important place occupied by investment in this strategy.

The ambitious quantitative objectives set within the framework of this strategy give an important place to investment as an essential component to contribute to the economic and social development of the Kingdom, he said, recalling that the goal is to create a capacity of accommodation of 200,000 new beds with 470,000 new jobs and to generate a global investment of 150 billion dirhams.

The actions undertaken to strengthen investment incentives and to guide financial institutions towards the hotel sector and new products were also on the agenda of these meetings, added the minister, who took the opportunity to invite Catalan operators to take advantage of the legal framework and the facilities and advantages granted by the Kingdom to foreign investments.

For their part, Catalan operators, several of whom are already established in Morocco, expressed their interest in investing and continuing to implement tourism projects in the Kingdom.

They took the opportunity of these meetings, which took place in the presence of the Kingdom's consul general in Barcelona, Ghoulam Maichane, to welcome the decisions taken by the government to facilitate the task of foreign entrepreneurs and to provide them with a series of tools to settle in the best conditions in Morocco.
