The Moroccan job market shows high demand for organizational roles directly related to sales/purchasing and logistics, and remains fairly classic regarding the types of profiles sought. These roles mainly concern sales, finance, marketing, and executive assistance.
In all sectors and functions combined, good training followed by recognized experience guarantees good positioning in the job market today.
Levels of Education and Experience Sought
Based on an analysis of ads published since February 14, 2006, on our pages, it clearly emerged that recruitment outsourcing is mainly for qualified and experienced profiles. These profiles are characterized by a Bac +3 to +5 level of education and a minimum of three years of experience (55% of 4000 ads published until the end of 2007). Training during student or professional life is now a necessity to adapt to the market and advance one's career!
Note that Bac +2 levels are not excluded: 10% of published ads are for them.
Recruiting Sectors
Since 2006, we've noted that the industrial sector has been the highest recruiter, representing 29% of published offers (including 5% for the automotive sector). This trend is set to increase in the coming years, particularly due to the new industrial strategy called "Emergence Program," which aims to increase the number of engineers and similar professionals from 4,284 per year (including 1,870 in IT) to over 10,000 by 2010.
Following closely is the Telecommunications sector, which is still growing with 11% of recruitment between 2006 and 2007. This expansion is also due to the large number of call centers strongly establishing themselves in the Moroccan market.
The IT sector, for its part, represents 10% of published ads. Due to its recent development, the IT market in Morocco can be considered a growth market, with annual growth estimated at 20% and expected to continue at a similar rate in the coming years.
What Type of Role to Choose?
Classic roles (sales, finance, HR) remain dominant. Unsurprisingly, sales representatives lead recruitment with 21% of published ads. In short, the job market suffers from a real shortage of sales representatives. In most cases, profiles are either overqualified for the position and generally decline the offer due to devaluation or compensation issues, or underqualified and, due to skills gaps, do not meet the needs of companies.
We have identified two types of sales profiles for you: the first, of a traditional type, are mainly sales representatives, area or regional managers... The second are experienced sales profiles, such as technical sales representatives or sales advisors.
Companies are also looking for business development managers whose mission is to develop projects based on market needs. This profession requires good knowledge of financial analysis and risk management, as well as a true commercial dimension and negotiation skills.
Sales representatives are closely followed by finance and IT professionals, representing 11% and 10% of searches, respectively. It's noted that even engineers are increasingly sought after for technical sales or financial engineering positions.
Beyond these aspects, the market trend is also towards support functions. Human Resources and management control are increasingly confirmed, and qualifying training is highly sought after at this level.
According to recruitment firms, this trend is becoming more precise. With a Bac +4 and a minimum of three years of experience, these profiles are always sought after mainly for their ability to act as a link between management and the rest of the company. This is the case, among others, for HR Managers (HRMs), who are particularly sought after. For the latter, a Bac +5 and 3 to 4 years of experience seems to be the rule.
Profiles sought for responsible positions are mainly those with dual skills, able to integrate into a competitive and increasingly international environment, and with recognized training and proven experience. In conclusion, with 250,000 additional jobs to be created each year (according to the Minister of Employment and Professional Training, Jamal Rhmani), one might wonder what education and training to provide to fully reassure domestic and foreign operators and investors? What profiles to shape, taking into account the most promising professions?
