Sales representatives are a real asset for the company because they undeniably contribute to its development. But for sales representatives to give their best, you need to know how to motivate and stimulate them.
To identify the factors impacting the motivation of the sales force, we conducted a survey and were able to highlight the following trends:
1. Motivational elements for a sales force
Sales representatives mainly need autonomy (#1), and good relationships with both clients (#2) and their management (#3).
Other aspects are more important to them, such as the work environment and salary (4th and 5th positions respectively).
Surprisingly, salary is not the primary motivation for sales staff, nor is the type of products/services sold.
2. Moroccan sales representatives work across multiple sectors
They do not attach importance to the type of products/services sold (10th position): they are therefore able to work in different sectors (52% of Moroccan sales representatives work across multiple sectors).
Another surprising fact is that sales representatives are able to sell a product without necessarily being convinced of it.
3. A sales force awaiting motivation and stimulation
Moroccan sales representatives rate their organization's efforts to motivate them at 5.4/10. Subject to a lot of stress, sales staff have a real need for motivation and fulfillment, which the company must meet by increasing motivation efforts. When we asked this same population about the importance of these actions in developing their potential, the vast majority (89%) responded by stating that these activities and actions have a real effect on their motivation and performance. It is therefore now necessary for companies to develop a system aimed at encouraging, motivating and pushing sales representatives to give their best.
4. Factors in choosing a sales career
The sales representatives surveyed chose this profession mainly for customer contact and orientation (22%), career progression opportunities (16%) and the pleasure of being in the field (15%). Once again, remuneration is at the bottom of the list. Financial factors have given way to other elements.
5. Satisfaction of Moroccan sales representatives
Moroccan sales representatives are happy and fulfilled in their work (86%), but also suffer from stress (82%). Despite the stress related to daily objectives, sales representatives are nonetheless happy to face the challenges related to this profession and to excel in the field.
