A conference on research and innovation for business competitiveness was held Wednesday in Tunis, chaired by Mr. Lazhar Bououni, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology.
Academics and business leaders attended this meeting, focusing on the role of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANPRI) in strengthening the influence of Tunisian businesses.
In operation for only six months, ANPRI works with Tunisian and foreign academics and experts to develop new innovative ideas in production.
Its main missions include improving the competitiveness of the national economic fabric, while making the most of experiences from other countries.
The focus was on the challenges facing businesses, concerning the repercussions of the global economic crisis, requiring a combined effort to develop strategies to increase production system efficiency and improve its competitiveness.
Participants highlighted the importance of using research results for businesses and development.
Tunisia's scientific research system will be strengthened by implementing a dashboard to monitor competitiveness indicators across all sectors. Efforts will also focus on introducing new professions and specializations in technology transfer, innovation network management, research result valorization, and promoting a culture of vigilance, the minister stated.
The knowledge economy, he added, is the result of a strategic alliance between education, research, and production systems, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the university's openness to its economic environment and aligning its scientific and training projects with business needs.
