Mr. Hatem Ben Salem, Minister of Education and Training, received a delegation from the International Organisation of La Francophonie in Tunis on Tuesday. The delegation was led by Mr. Hugo Saada, OIF Delegate for Peace, Democracy and Human Rights.
Mr. Ben Salem recalled the adoption by the Francophonie Summit held in Quebec (October 2008) of Tunisia's initiative to promote children's rights in the Francophonie.
He stressed that Tunisia's commitment to human rights in general, and children's rights in particular, is illustrated by the integration of the values of citizenship, freedom and tolerance into school curricula at all levels.
Issues of common interest relating to the integration of information and communication technologies (ICTs) into education systems, the development of digital educational content and the improvement of students' language skills were on the agenda of the meeting.
The Minister recalled Tunisia's initiative, in the framework of its cooperation with France, to organise the 5+5 Dialogue at the level of Ministers of Education on the integration of ICTs into education systems in September 2009.
For his part, Mr. Hugo Saada welcomed the qualitative leap made by the organisation after its restructuring and the adoption of a new charter.
He highlighted Tunisia's constant support for the OIF in its efforts to establish a debate on issues of cultural diversity and the promotion of human rights.
During November 2009, the OIF plans to organise several events in Tunis, including a seminar on children's rights.
