The Bizerte Marina – whose inauguration is scheduled for September 2011 – will significantly boost several sectors in the region. It is expected to create over 700 permanent jobs and requires investments of around 200 million dinars, highlighted Mr. Béchir Mejdoub, president of "Bizerte Cap 3000", during a press conference held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 in Tunis.
This high-value-added project also addresses the current saturation of ports around the Mediterranean. The Bizerte Marina will have a capacity to accommodate 700 boats and catamarans, with the possibility of expansion.
It is worth recalling that work on this project began in July 2009. This project embodies the national policy of encouraging and promoting recreational tourism, especially in Bizerte, which "offers all the opportunities for the development of this activity, thanks to its natural, archaeological, and geographical assets," noted Mr. Mejdoub.
Besides the real estate component – whose completion is expected in 2012 – the Bizerte Marina also includes a promenade (with entertainment, shops, and an art gallery), a harbor master's office, and a shipyard in Zarzouna.
"The originality of the concept lies in its complete integration into the historic city of Bizerte," concluded Mr. Mejdoub.
