The Moroccan government will create an Industrial Development Fund (IDF). By 2020, this fund will have about €1.8 billion to support the growth of Moroccan industries. Morocco expects the industrial sector to create 500,000 jobs by 2020.
This measure is part of a plan to accelerate industrial growth. This plan includes government support for building high-performing ecosystems. This means creating value chains around industrial groups like Renault in Tangier.
This new strategy replaces the Emergence Plan (2009-2014). The goal is to create 500,000 industrial jobs by 2020. Half of these jobs should come from foreign direct investment (FDI). The objective is for industry to represent 23% of GDP by 2020, compared to 14% today.
Moulay Hafid Elalamy, the Moroccan Minister of Industry, made this announcement at the fourth Industrial Summit.
