Morocco: 89,000 jobs created between the first quarter of 2013 and that of 2014.

Some 89,000 jobs, including 46,000 in urban areas and 43,000 in rural areas, were created by the Moroccan economy between the first quarter of 2013 and that of 2014, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

The total number of jobs thus increased from 10,397,000 to 10,486,000 between the first quarter of 2013 and that of 2014, representing a net creation of 89,000 jobs, specified the HCP in a briefing note on the labor market situation in the first quarter of 2014.

With growth in the working-age population greater than that of the employed active population, the employment rate fell by 0.3 points nationally, from 43.2% to 42.9%, a decrease of 0.4 points in urban areas and stagnation in rural areas, added the same source.

By sector, the "services" sector leads with the creation of 93,000 jobs, or 2.3% of the sector's employment volume, followed by the "agriculture, forestry and fishing" sector with 53,000 new jobs, or 1.4%, while the "industry including crafts" sector experienced a loss of 45,000 jobs, or -3.4% of the sector's employment volume, and 12,000 jobs lost in the construction and public works (BTP) sector, or -1.2%.
