Morocco: 8.1% increase in tourism's contribution to GDP in 2014

The tourism sector represented 8.6% of Morocco's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2013, reaching 9.5 billion dollars (77.13 billion dirhams) and is expected to increase by 8.1% in 2014, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council's 2014 report.
This share should experience an average annual growth rate of 5.6% between 2014 and 2024, to ultimately represent 141.5 billion dirhams (MMDH), or 9.7% of GDP, explains the report, cited by a press release from the Ministry of Tourism.
Regarding employment, the sector had a workforce of 814,000 people in 2013, or 7.6% of total employment. This contribution should increase by 6.1% in 2014 and by 2.7% annually by 2024, to reach 1.13 million direct jobs (or 8.8% of employment).
For indirect jobs, the Council expects an increase of 6.4% in 2014, or 1.91 million jobs. In 10 years, 1.31 million indirect jobs will be created thanks to the tourism and travel sector.
Regarding travel revenue, the council estimates that their contribution should grow by 10.1% in 2014 and by 6% per year over the next 10 years, noting that revenue should reach 146.4 billion dirhams in 2024.
