Workplace Safety Measures

The draft law on workplace safety and health lists mandatory safety measures in the workplace. In this sense, Article 7 of the text requires the employer to ensure in advance that the means and substances handled by their employees do not present a danger to their safety and/or health.

In cases where substances and means deemed dangerous are handled by personnel, safety measures are required according to Article 7. The latter gives each employee the right to be informed about the potential dangers inherent in their workplace and, as a result, to receive the necessary training and assistance to enhance safety. Safety equipment must be provided free of charge to each employee.

One of the new features of the draft law concerns the obligation for employers to ensure that their employees use safety equipment during their working hours. A register must be kept by companies listing all recorded workplace accidents and occupational illnesses. This register will be used, according to the provisions of the law, to produce analytical reports. Periodic checks of work equipment by experts or qualified bodies also become mandatory.
