You've been looking for work for a while, you've applied for many jobs without a response, and now you've received a job offer. First reaction: FINALLY!
You see the light at the end of the tunnel, a feeling of satisfaction overwhelms you. It's undoubtedly a first success, but before diving in, consider asking yourself some questions. Does this offer really meet your expectations? Your goals? Because the risk is that this offer will make you lose sight of your career plan.
Take the time to take stock!
Before making your decision, take some time to reflect and evaluate what is being offered. What are the positive and negative points? What are the constraints of the position, its advantages? Don't leave anything to chance because accepting this job is a long-term commitment, so you should be convinced of what you are about to accept. On the other hand, if you are sure to refuse this offer, it is because it does not fit at all with your aspirations, and there you will have to question your search methods. Because if you are offered jobs that do not match what you are looking for, maybe you are not sending the right message in your applications. However, you should not systematically exclude certain opportunities just because they do not exactly match your professional aspirations, because sometimes, a job even far from your career plans can prove profitable in many ways.
Could it be an opportunity!
Accepting to join a different branch can also be seen as a turning point in your career, an opportunity to acquire new knowledge or improve it, to train in new techniques. It also allows you to get a foot in the door, which is far from negligible, especially in these times of crisis.
Do you really have a choice!
Once all this analysis is done, the question you absolutely must ask yourself is: Do I really have a choice? Am I really able to refuse the job offered to me? Can I afford to be demanding and wait for the job of my dreams? These questions are the elements that will allow you to decide once and for all and make your decision, because unfortunately in life, we cannot only do what we want, we must seize opportunities when they arise!
