TUNIS, July 6, 2010 (TAP) - The new edition of the university guidance guide (2010), published by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, includes a series of new features introduced, in light of the recommendations from the comprehensive evaluation of the guidance system aimed at optimizing the employability of diplomas.
The guide is presented in a new format based on the distribution of training offers by discipline, specialty, and institution. It is also about diversifying programs based on market needs and introducing flexibility to avoid prior specialization.
But the big news is the merger of some licenses into common cores for one trimester or one semester depending on the nature of each program.
Thus, out of the 720 pre-existing university programs, the new guidance guide has retained only 580 after removing specialties that have similarities with other programs. Nevertheless, some disciplines have been consolidated while postponing specialization to the end of the university course.
A new trend that should allow the university institution to revise curricula and reception capacities in certain specialties, in the middle of the course, based on their positioning in the job market.
The new guide supports the presidential approach aimed at strengthening the level and quality of university training, through the rehabilitation of humanities, by giving all the necessary importance to language teaching.
A policy that has been reflected through the upgrading of some licenses (sociology, psychology, languages: German, Italian, Spanish) and the creation of two preparatory cycles in languages (Arabic, French, and English) and in humanities (Philosophy, History, and geography).
The modifications also affected the criteria for guidance towards languages and engineering studies. Note that the reception capacity for preparatory engineering cycles has been consolidated by the creation of preparatory classes and new schools.
In terms of format, the guide offers, in addition to training offers according to university institutions, offers listed according to the branch. Objective: to bring more readability to the guide by allowing the student to choose the discipline then the institution.
For the first time, the guide includes data on each university course and a preliminary idea of its job opportunities.
Given the importance of university guidance for the future of young generations and the country's strategic development choices, a national center and regional university guidance offices have been created.
These structures are responsible for providing the necessary clarifications to high school graduates on the various university programs, their programs, and their professional prospects.
The announcement of the results of the four guidance rounds is scheduled successively for July 23, July 31, August 7, and August 11, 2010.
