Robert Half's 2008 Recruitment Tools Ranking

Robert Half recently published its survey results on recruitment practices across 17 countries. Some findings may be surprising. It's important to note a significant disparity between sectors, which, when averaged, can significantly downplay certain practices or exaggerate others.

57% of French respondents said they prefer email applications, compared to 42% who prefer traditional mail. Unsolicited applications are appreciated by French recruiters; 73% reported using them.

Regarding sourcing, 50% prefer posting job openings on their company website. While the numbers aren't consistent regarding ad purchases, 47% publish job postings on specialized websites, 45% on generalist websites, and 46% use specialized press. Finally, to source new candidates, 40% of French recruiters use a headhunting firm or temp agency.

Despite the rise of social media, respondents don't favor its use. Only 5% of French recruiters use LinkedIn, Viadeo, Xing, or Facebook.

This survey was conducted between March and April 2008 with over 3,000 managers responsible for recruitment in a representative sample of companies (size, sector) across 17 countries and territories (Germany, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Spain, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Netherlands, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Singapore, Switzerland).
