Lydec and Hassan II University Partnership

Title: Lydec and Hassan II University Partnership To develop research on water, electricity, and sanitation professions, Lydec and Hassan II University have concluded three partnership agreements.

Lydec and Hassan II University have just signed three agreements aimed at developing research within the university on topics related to Lydec's activities. These agreements were signed by Jean-Pierre Emenault, CEO of Lydec, and Mohamed Berkaoui, president of Hassan II University, on Wednesday, October 8, in Casablanca. These agreements aim to provide student researchers with the means to carry out their projects on topics that are so important for Lydec.

These three research projects in the field of water and sanitation were selected by a selection committee and will therefore benefit from scientific and technical supervision. The first project consists of developing a laboratory test allowing for an objective measurement of the resistance of materials to H2S. Indeed, wastewater from the agglomeration is collected and conveyed to outlets through buried pipes, made from different materials (cast iron, concrete, PVC, polyethylene...). The second project aims to measure the real impact of the El Hank emissary on the marine and coastal environment of Casablanca. Concretely, it involves carrying out three types of research: measuring the impacts; proposing a "biological marker" that would allow monitoring the quality of the marine environment over the years; and proposing a water quality level treated from the marine and coastal environment of the study area.

The third project, according to Lydec's technical director Jean-Pierre Hangouet, is "the most interesting since it aims to understand the origin and causes of the variation in the organoleptic quality of the raw water used to produce water for the Casablanca region". To carry out this project, the student-researchers will have to measure and characterize the natural quality of the water, then the different contributions to the watershed to better understand that of the raw water. As an indication, Lydec and Hassan II University signed an agreement on November 28, 2007, with the objectives of facilitating and intensifying exchanges for student integration, continuing education, and research and development. This partnership meets the expectations in terms of matching training and employment.

The agreement is divided into several partnership areas: initial training, continuing education, applied research, and conferences. An annual plan is established between Lydec and Hassan II University of Casablanca before the beginning of each year, outlining the content and schedule of the various agreed actions.
